Small things about self-hosting, photography and slow travel.
Moving my photo archive to a tiny server
After years of paying for cloud storage I moved the archive to a small VPS with a plain static gallery. Thumbnails are generated once, originals stay compressed, and the whole thing costs less than a coffee per month.
Two weeks in the north
Long evenings, almost no darkness, and a lot of time to sort old negatives. Notes on film stock and on a lens that refuses to focus in the cold.
Static sites are still the best
No database, no plugins, no updates at three in the morning. A folder of HTML files and a web server that renews its own certificates.
